List of Schools Participating in the Gradual Return of Face to Face Class

Due to the pandemic outbreak that happened last year and the sudden national lockdown that happened, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that face-to-face classes needed to be stopped in order to secure the health and safety of the students.

The Department of Education or DepEd respond to the President's call by designing the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan, which established the foundation for the deployment of online learning.

Distance Learning

Any educational or learning method in which the guide and the student are physically apart is typically classified as "distance education." In this course, there is no contact among the participants. In today's world, computer and electronic technologies have a significant impact on how distant learning is conducted.

Learners in distance learning needs stable internet connection.

Distance Learning in PH

In the Philippines, it was decided to simplify the K–12 curriculum in order to teach the Most Essential Learning Competencies through module-based learning, online learning, television or radio-based instruction, and blended learning or a mix of two or more learning modalities. Diosdado San Antonio, the Education Undersecretary, said that the most important thing was to keep students and teachers safe while providing education.

The DepEd also trained teachers to prepare them for distance learning and generate high-quality learning materials, including self-learning modules, video, and radio content. Although several preparations and hard were made, the country is still not prepared enough for this sudden change of mode of education.

Gradual return to classrooms

Even as Covid-19 instances continue to rise because of its more contagious Delta version, the education sector declared earlier this September that it was working with the Department of Health (DoH) on recommendations for low-risk areas to resume physical classes.

Under the proposed plan, 100 public and 20 private schools would conduct in-person classes for kindergarten to grade three-= under rigorous health and safety guidelines of the inter-agency task force against COVID-19 on November 15. It was also noted that student involvement in this pilot implementation is entirely voluntary.

Health and safety guidelines for physical classes

Students and teachers all wore their face masks and face shields during the pilot run as they entered the classroom again for the first time after 19 months of distance learning.

Schools and health authorities have agreed on health measures that include temperature inspections and handwashing stations. COVID-19 testing will not be obligatory for students, concerned teachers, or non-teaching personnel. The Department of Health also said that it does not advocate frequent screening, and individuals with symptoms will instead be placed in isolation.

It needs great courage to take risks in bringing back face to face classes again. Let's hope that the COVID-19 cases continue to get lower so that our schools and economy can again go back to normal.
