24 September 2022
Know the Facts PH Celebration of 2022 National Teachers Month

With the coming back of face-to-face classes, the celebration of National Teachers' Month this year can again be observed as a month-long celebration with the teachers and students physically present in schools.

The Department of Education or DepEd declared September 5th (Monday) to be the official beginning of the month-long celebration of National Teachers' Month (NTM) in 2022 and its kick-off celebration was led by the Schools Division of Davao Del Norte on September 6, with the theme "Gurong Pilipino, Dangal ng Sambayanang Pilipino" as their Facebook Page states.

By order of Proclamation No. 242, series of 2011, the nation officially began commemorating the NTM. The pinnacle of the 2022 NTM will occur on October 5, which is also National Teachers' Day (NTD) and World Teachers' Day (WTD).

DepEd has declared that the aim of this month-long event is to honor the efforts of all teachers and school administrators who work tirelessly to provide every child and youth in the country a fair shot at realizing their full potential.

PBBM's Plans for PH Education System and Teachers

This year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. set many plans and preparations for the opening of face-to-face classes all over the country. For the 2022-2023 school year, millions of kids around the nation returned to their classrooms, and these directives were made to handle any potential problems that may develop during the face-to-face classes in the midst of the pandemic.

Since DepEd has just issued an order mandating the widespread adoption of a policy calling for the introduction of five-day in-person sessions, blended learning will no longer be allowed after October 31st.

Below are some of the developments taking place in the Philippines education system this year:

Implementation review of the K-12 Program

Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte has been tasked by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. with reviewing the K-12 Program's execution.

The K-12 Program became trending in the past years as a means to improve the educational standards for Filipino students and bring them in line with the rest of the world by increasing the required number of years to finish basic education from 10 to 13.

We can remember that DepEd has also announced last year some plans to gradually examine the "congested" learning abilities in the K-12 curriculum in an effort to better prepare students for the workforce of the future.

In this light, the K-12 curriculum has been called into question, and Senator Sonny Angara has voiced support for this idea. However, he stressed that this does not constitute a call to scrap the program altogether, but rather an opportunity for the DepEd to make improvements and ensure its effective implementation.

Studying the additional benefits for teachers' proposal

The education department has been tasked by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. with investigating alternatives to salary increases, such as "nonbasic wage benefits," which would be provided to teachers rights in addition to their regular paychecks.

DepEd Spokesperson, Michael Poa, told in a press conference that the department has requested to the President that allowances be given to teachers in addition to their basic salaries. This is because the government is unable to unilaterally adopt pay increases since so many aspects must be taken into account and balanced resorting to eyeing the provision of several allowances to teachers instead.

Possibility of hiring additional non-teaching staff

In addition, Poa said that the Department of Education (DepEd) may engage more non-teachers to free up instructors from administrative duties and to enhance the quality of education provided to students. This is in line of the DepEd's ongoing curriculum reform, which aims to improve the delivery of basic education, that the proposal to relieve teachers of administrative chores has been developed.

1k Incentive for Teachers this National Teachers Month

September 8, 2022 (Thursday)-- DepEd announced rewarding educators with a monetary bonus of Php 1, 000 this year as part of the month-long observance of National Teachers' Month.

It was declared during a news conference by Atty. Michael Poa that the World Teacher's Day Incentive Benefit, also known as WTDIB, will carry on and continue to be offered and receive by eligible public school teachers.

To that objective, Poa added that on October 5th, which is also National Teachers' Day, DepEd would host a ceremony for the teachers.

VP Sara commended and honor teachers' dedication to the Filipino youth

On Tuesday, September 6th, to kick off National Teachers' Month, Vice President and current Education Secretary Sara Duterte made a speech recognizing the contributions of teachers in our education system. She praised teachers for their dedication, commitment, and close continuous search for knowledge to educate students' needs, whether face-to-face or online.

Since the start of the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, local government units and medical frontliners have been working together to ensure that educational services continue to be provided. Duterte has released a statement praising these individuals for their willingness to be flexible for the sake of students.

She said that despite the difficulties in the education sector caused by the pandemic, she was inspired and impressed by the instructors' determination and strength to continue delivering modules, assisting in the facilitation of community learning centers, and providing students with supplementary learning tools.

VP Sara said that these educators, especially those in outlying locations, have shown remarkable fortitude in the face of natural disasters like as hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods. Respect for educators is important to her on a personal level, she added, since she knows how important their work is in shaping the future of the Filipino children.
