How to Celebrate New Year Without Fireworks at Home

How to Celebrate New Year Without Fireworks at Home

Every year, people around the world welcome New Year’s Eve with grandiose fireworks displays and a handful of firecrackers. In fact, most countries even host extravagant pyrotechnics and street concerts, including the Philippines. Other cities are celebrating New Year activities, such as midnight kisses once the ball drops and lighting up glow sticks once the clock ticks midnight.

However, the aftermath of the New Year’s Eve celebrations for some is tragic due to injuries and death caused by firecrackers. That is why the national government strictly regulated the use of fireworks and firecrackers. Based on the Republic Act 7183, any individual is prohibited from setting up their own fireworks and firecrackers for the general welfare of Filipinos.

Many say the government is a killjoy because New Year only happens once a year. For others, we can still celebrate a prosperous New Year, even without fireworks, using our creative ideas.

Creative Ideas to Celebrate New Year at Home Without Fireworks

Firecracker Ban is not new for the people of Davao since 2002. Yet, they manage to welcome new years eve with a blast. Therefore, it can be successfully done throughout the country.

Here’s how.

Use torotots or local handmade trumpets.

The most common thing to do on New Year’s eve is to use the local handmade trumpets or torotots. You can also buy plastic trumpets anywhere and give them to your kids. So, blow them with all your might to create the loudest noise in your neighborhood.

Pump up the volume of your sound system.

If you have speakers or a sound system, tune up the volume and play heart-stomping music. If you have that groove, dance to the beat and show off your dancing skills.

Play and sing videoke with your family and friends.

Filipinos are known for their singing skills, even if they sound horrible with their tone. But this makes the celebration more memorable because you laugh and have fun with the people you love.

Visit designated fireworks displays in your area.

Despite the strict regulations in the Philippines, you can still enjoy watching fireworks displays in designated areas. If you happen to buy an affordable house and lot in Bulacan, Cavite, or Clark, the local government sets up fireworks in a safe place but viewable enough for the people during New Year.

Bang your cooking pans and pots.

Our old folks used to clank their pots and pans to get rid of evil spirits and fortunes during their younger years. It has been a traditional culture for many Filipinos before. So, why not re-enact these moments and start hitting those pans and pots with a ladle? Some people hold and hit pans while roaming around their houses shouting, “Happy New Year!”

Turn on your car or motorcycle’s engine.

If you have a motorcycle or a car, turn them on and blow up the horns when the clock strikes midnight. To create louder noise, rev up the engine to produce a “vroom” sound. Not only do you enjoy tuning up your vehicle, but it also boosts the oil circulation in your car or motorcycle.

Stroll along your neighborhood with tied-up empty cans on your bikes.

That empty cans of fruit cocktails and other food ingredients can also be helpful. You can tie them up with ropes to your bicycle and pedal through your community. It would also be noisier to have unused galvanized sheets and tie them up on your car or motorcycle. Stroll along your neighborhood and greet your neighbors.

The past year, we only stayed at our home due to the pandemic. Now that the health crisis is almost over, one of our New Year's resolutions is to go out and have fun. It can be exciting and entertaining, but nothing beats than to spend time with your family at home, especially on New Year’s Eve celebration.

Aside from making noise to welcome the new year celebration with your family, here are the best things to do at home.

  • Host game activities and challenge your family members.

Big or small family, spending time together is priceless. It’s one way to be thankful because you have survived the killer pandemic. So, make the most of it and host a New year's Eve party with a game night to challenge your family members. You can copy those viral videos online and create your own version. Who knows, your version might be the next viral video once you upload it on social media.

  • Fire up your grill for a barbeque.

If you prefer a relaxing and chilling evening, fire up that grill for a barbeque setup with your family. It’s perfect to pair them with a cold beer and small talk as well. You can talk about your past experiences and future plans, such as buying a house and lot in the Philippines.

  • Get the kids to line up and throw up coins and chocolates.

If you have an extra budget, buy packs of candies and chocolates. Then, let the kids in your neighborhood gather in front of your home. Along with the coins, throw them up to the kids and let them enjoy jumping and collecting those chocolates and coins. Sometimes, giving others little things is more satisfying than receiving gifts.

New Year indicates a fresh start in your life and for your family. If you have planned your future and choose to purchase an affordable house and lot for sale, you’ve done the best thing for your family. You have provided the best gift and created a secure investment for them.
