With many Filipino citizens graduating and preparing to move up another level to further their education, the application process are stringent and the program compliance is very strict.

 

If you are from the graduating batch of 2022, here are some scholarship programs you can apply for financial aid for your education.

 

Government scholarships offered in Philippines this 2022

For a member of a graduating class to receive a scholarship grant to further studies is an honor for future college students, may they be Filipino citizens or international students. However, these scholarship benefits are limited, hence in order to get a fighting chance to qualify for yhr scholarship program or let alone a partial scholarship, here's what you need to know about how to apply and find scholarships in the Philippines.

 

1. DOST-SEI undergraduate scholarship program

In the Philippines, if you are a DOST scholar, it is already a bragging right. The DOST scholarship application process is not easy, and so should you pass, it means you are among the elite few deserving of the department's opportunities.

 

Recently, the Department of Science and Technology wants to encourage Filipino youth to pursue the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

 

Perhaps as a response to the new curriculum of k-12 implemented to Filipino undergraduate students in the country, the DOST scholarship now offers undergraduate scholarships programs for DOST-SEI undergraduate students, as per the DOST Science Education Institute. The goal of this junior-level science scholarship is to promote knowledge-driven progress through human resource development. 

 

ELIGIBILITY

Want to know if you're eligible for the DOST scholarship? Check out these criteria from the DOST office:

  • Natural-born Filipino citize

  • Belong to the top 5% graduating class of the non-STEM strand in senior high school, or one who belongs in the STEM strand graduating class in senior high school

  • A resident of the stated barangay or municipality

  • In good health, and must have good moral character

  • Your first time taking the DOST-SEI examination or did the previous DOST Sei Examination but didn’t qualify for the scholarship

  • Do not have any undergraduate or post-secondary unit

  • Passed and taken the DOST-SEI undergraduate examination or the DOST-SEI scholarship assessment

     

REQUIREMENTS

The following items should be submitted for both RA 7687 and Merit scholarships.

  • Personal Information–Form A)

  • Household information and questionnaire

  • Latest 1x1-inch ID picture

  • Copy of birth certificate

  • Income tax return of parents for 2019 and/or Employment contract for OFW; Barangay certificate of indigency; or BIR Certificate of exemption from the filing of ITR

  • Certificate of Residency

  •  Parent’s Certification

  • Applicant’s certification

  • Certificate of good moral character

  • Certificate of good health

  • Principal’s Certification (Form E1 or E2)

  • Declaration by the parent/legal guardian and the applicant with signature

DOST priority courses

If you receive a scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology, they prefer that you choose from the courses that focus on the said applied disciplines, such as:

  • Applied Mathematics

  • Architecture

  • Astronomy

  • Bachelor in Technology and Livelihood Education (Specialization in Information and Communications Technology)

  • Information and Communications Technology

  • Materials Engineering

  • Mathematics

  • Mathematics and Science Teaching

 

2. CHED SCHOLARSHIP 

The CHED scholarship program is among the most prestigious in the Philippines. Sponsored by the highest educational authority of the land, CHED Scholarship applicants can have various opportunities after they have finished their chosen college courses.

The Philippines' CHED Scholarship program wants to help students enrolled in accredited public or private higher education institutions (HEIs). This assists in ensuring that education is available to all, particularly impoverished and deserving children who are honor students. Primary Qualifications include good moral character, as well as the absence of conditional or failing mark.

 

ELIGIBILITY

The CHED regional office accepts college students applicants who are:

  • A Filipino citizen

  • A graduating high school student or high school graduate with a general average General Weighted Average (GWA) of:

    • Full scholarship: 96%

    • Half-merit scholarship: 93%-95%

In the case of the Full State Scholarship Program (FSSP) and Full Private Education Student Financial Assistance (FPESPA), your GWA must be 96% or above.

On the other hand, the Half-SSP and Half-PESPA, GWA must be 93% but not more than 95%.

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

Citizenship

  • Certified true copy of your Birth Certificate.

Academic

  • Duly certified copy of the student's high school report card for incoming freshmen students eligible for college (High School Graduate); and

  • Duly certified copy of grades for Grade 11 and 1st semester of Grade 12 for graduating high school students.

 

Financial

Think you are among the deserving students who need this scholarship? Here are the documents mentioned that you need to prepare:

 

  • Certificate of Indigence (from their Barangay or DSWD);

  • Certificate of Tax Exemption (from BIR);

  • ITR of parents or guardian;

  • Case Study report from DSWD; or

  • If you are a dependent of an Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and seafarers, they can consider the copy of the latest contract or proof of income

CHED priority courses:

The CHED also has a list of priority courses that applicants should enroll in. Choose from the following:

  • Information Technology Education - These include Computer Science, Cyber Security, and Game Development and Animation

  • Science and Mathematics - Courses to take note of include Biochemistry, Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Geology

  • Engineering and Technology - Various programs under this discipline include Food Engineering, Geodetic Engineering, and Industrial Engineering

3. GSIS educational subsidy program or GSIS Scholarship

The Government Service Insurance System is a branch of the government that caters exclusively to government employees. In addition, they also have a scholarship program called the GSIS Scholarship Program that aims to provide financial aid to the dependents of low-income GSIS members or if the members are pensioners under the age of 60.

 

As there are only 400 scholarships available, 40 of them goes to disabled people’s dependents, indigenous peoples, and solo or single parents. To apply, simply download, print, and complete the application form. Then, send a copy of the application form online and other documents mentioned above to [email protected]

 

ELIGIBILITY

    • Children/family members of active contributors of GSIS 

    • Grantees must be college students (at any year level with a 4- or 5-year course and enrolled in any school recognized by CHED) that have no existing scholarship from a public or private institution

    • Parents must have permanent employment status and within the salary grade 24 (or equivalent and below).

    • Have no record of underpaid or unpaid loan amortization (for more than 3 months).  

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Dependent’s Birth Certificate

  • Certificate of Employment (if applicable)

  • Certificate from the applicant's previous high school stating that the nominated scholar is an incoming college freshman during the current academic year

  • Grade of no lower than 80% (with no incomplete or failed ratings) in any subject during the past academic year

  • Duly accomplished GSIS Scholarship Application Form

  • GSIS Print out copy of Business Partner (BP) Number 

 

4. Philippines' Landbank Fisheries Scholarship Program

In 2014, this development financing institution was hailed as an outstanding development project by the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP). It falls under the Corporate Social Responsibility category of the ADFIAP Awards of the same year.

 

Fueled by the success, Landbank continues to provide the Gawad Patnubay (Gawad Pag-aaral Tungo sa Maunlad na Bayan) Scholarship Program. This scholarship aims to focus on incoming college students who are interested in the fields of Fisheries and or Agriculture-related courses.

 

This education-to-employment initiative aims to help underprivileged but deserving students pursue careers in agriculture and fishery.

 

With quality education and years of experience, this LandBAnk program aspires to build skills in contemporary agriculture, reignite the passion for the agricultural industry, as well as to promote sustainable development, and try to eliminate poverty in rural areas.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be a Filipino citizen

  • Must be students taking up BS Agriculture, BS Fisheries or any agriculture-related disciplines.

  • Have completed initial screening procedures of partner accredited local universities including entrance exams, preliminary interviews and complete document submission.

  • Ideally dependents of active members of cooperatives of small farmers and fishers presently being aided by LANDBANK, LCDFI, or Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) and Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs).

  • Honor students' primary qualification: general weighted average (GWA) of at least 2.5 or its equivalent in each semester; no record of grades lower than 3.0 or equivalent in any subject

  • Must not be beneficiaries of other financial assistance, grant, or scholarship from other external sources both public and private funding such as partial scholarships and educational plans.

  • Must not exceed PHP 300,000.00 annual total family income as stated in their BIR Income Tax Return (ITR). But exemptions apply on a case-to-case basis.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Certified true copy of birth certificate or PSA-certified birth certificate

  • Medical certificate

  • Copy of recent ITR of parents or BIR certificate of tax exemption

  • Two 2”x 2” ID photos

  • Certificate of Good Moral Character released by the former institution's Office of Student Affairs

  • A certified true copy of grades

  • Barangay clearance from the applicant’s home barangay

  • Duly filled-out scholarship application form

  • 1 letter of recommendation from a past teacher/professor

  • Current resumé with list of activities, honors, and awards

  • An essay with maximum of 500 words on “Why I am pursuing an agriculture-related career”
