A glimpse into Tanza, Cavite's history

Historically, the area presently known as General Trias was part of the previous municipality of San Francisco de Malabon, known then as Tanza. The Fabian brothers came here initially and established the settlement. The locals gave this area the name Estancia since it was specifically dedicated to grazing in 1780.

The town of Sta. Cruz de Malabon was renamed Tanza by virtue of Philippine Legislative Act No. 2390, which was passed on February 28, 1914, thanks to the efforts of Florentino Joya, the representative of Cavite at the time in the Philippine Assembly.

Although Tanza is one of two municipalities in Cavite that meet the criteria to be elevated to the status of city in the province, no legislation establishing their status as such has been introduced in Congress yet.
