National Art Month 2023: Preserving our Filipino Heritage

22 February 2023
National Art Month 2023 Preserving our Filipino Heritage

The Philippines celebrate National Arts Month every February. This is a month-long celebration of the arts and the artistic excellence of our national artists. The event is also referred to as Ani ng Sining. To promote and preserve Filipino arts and culture, the event was established by Presidential Proclamation No. 683 signed by President Corazon Aquino in 1993. The country's National Commission for Culture and the Arts, also called as NCCA, and the Center Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) are responsible for organizing the celebration, which includes a variety of art events such as exhibitions, performances, seminars, community engagements, and festivals. The celebration aims to showcase the best of Filipino heritage. Filipinos have the opportunity to celebrate February National Arts Month and show their support for the growth of the arts in our country while appreciating the depth of our cultural history.

The institution's primary responsibilities and functions include establishing a network of municipal and regional councils for culture and the arts and coordinating the operations and programs of all current government cultural bodies. The body also has the authority to form committees. The term N.C.C.A means for 'Nationalistic,' 'Committed to Service,' 'Competent,' and 'Artistic and Culture Sensitive.' Its current executive director, Oscar Casaysay, was nominated by President Rodrigo Duterte in January 2022.
