Lumina: Light It Up!
22 December 2021Our featured projects, Lumina Pilar, Lumina Sariaya, Lumina Bacolod, and Lumina Pagadian will light up Filipinos' most iconic symbol of Christmas, Parol!
It’s just a few days left before Christmas. We’re sure that most of you are so busy now preparing for the Christmas Eve—buying ingredients for your holiday dinner menu, last minute Christmas shopping, and wrapping gifts for your loved ones.
Some might even still just starting to decorate their homes for the upcoming Christmas Eve party.
We all know that celebrating Christmas in the Philippines is a one of a kind experience compared to other countries in the world. In fact, Christmas in the Philippines are often seen as colorful, lively, and full of traditions!
Since Filipino Christmas is one of a kind, not mentioning that it is also considered as the longest Christmas celebration in the world, most Filipinos start decorating their homes with bright and zippy colors as early as the month of September, the first ber months in the calendar.
One of the most common decorations that you can see when you visit the Philippines during the Christmas season is their colorful Christmas lanterns or what we locally called, “Parol.”
Philippines Christmas Lanterns or Parols
By any chance, Philippine Christmas will not be complete without the traditional parol decorations. It is the most iconic and genuine symbol of Pinoy Christmas.
They say that parol represents the Star of Bethlehem that guided the three wise men to Baby Jesus. This makes the parol a symbol of Faith and Hope for Filipinos.
Light it Up: A Parol Lighting Event
For this year’s Christmas, Lumina Homes showcased the Faith and Hope of every Filipinos as each of their community project sites all over the country creates their own version of the traditional Filipino parol.
The parol made by Lumina Pilar is made with blue and red color that is accentuated with bright lights and glowing sticks on both sides at the top and at the bottom. They put it in front of the subdivision marker of Lumina Pilar, softly glowing as people and motorists pass by.
Ms. Dannah from the Marketing Department of North Luzon gave a short Christmas greetings in behalf of the whole Lumina Pilar community:
“May the magic of the Christmas season fill your home with love, laughter, and peace. We wish you a very happy Christmas and Blessed New Year.”
“We know that these past years have been very difficult for you and we pray that the coming year brings more certain times for your family. Sending all our love and good wishes for better days ahead. Take care of yourselves and stay safe.”
Lumina Sariaya on the other hand became creative in making their version of Christmas lantern. They use recycled materials such as whisks and local abaniko fans, then painted it with blue color. To put glow into it, they covered all the corners of the parol—creating a star shape glow to it at night.
Ms. Linette from the Marketing Department of Lumina South Luzon expressed their hope and warm wishes to everyone, in behalf of the whole Lumina Sariaya community:
“Praying that this Christmas season will fill your hearts with love, happiness, and prosperity. May everyone end this year with a smile and start this New Year with hope. Merry Christmas and God bless us.”
Lumina Bacolod
Meanwhile, Lumina Bacolod takes their traditional Christmas lantern or parol into the next level by creating a double star for their parol version. They used an orange PVC pipe tube in making it and cover it with white—creating a white Christmas feels with its bluish lights on the corner. They also put a soft dancing glow of light in the middle that can help bring into view the subdivision marker of Lumina Bacolod to passersby and motorists, especially at night.
Mr. Glenn Guacena, Lumina Visayas Cluster Head, spoke on behalf of the whole Lumina Bacolod community, hoping and wishing the best for everyone:
“Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.”
“May this Christmas, amidst the pandemic, bring your hope, love, and peace to each and every family of yours. Wishing you all a Merry Merry Christmas!”
Ms. Betty and Ms. Aileen from Lumina Visayas also gave their short Christmas greetings for everyone:
“May the magic of the Christmas season fill your home with joy and peace. Sending lots of love to your family. Have a blessed Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.”
Lumina Pagadian
Lumina Pagadian made their over version of parol simple yet captivating with blue color on each corner and red with white accents in the middle. They put fairy lights on the side and let the center glow highlighting the red center color of the Christmas lantern.
Ms. Rocel from the Marketing Team of Lumina Mindanao communities wishes everyone a happy holiday season on behalf of the whole Lumina Pagadian community:
“Christmas is not just about the candy canes or twinkling Christmas lights. It is about the care we show and the hearts we touch.”
“From all of us in Lumina, we wish you and your family a heartwarming and fantastic Christmas holiday. Merry Christmas!”
