Bigtime Palaboy from Bulacan Joins Lumina Hiphop to the Top Dance Contest

7 February 2022

It's no secret that hip-hop dancing is one of the most popular and dynamic dance forms. You may find young folks from all around the globe using this app to their advantage. But do you sometimes wonder why Hip Hop dance is so popular these days?

For the most part, the ability to create one's movements is what attracts today's youth to hip-hop dancing. New ways to exhibit individuality and feeling are opened up for the next generation. Performing hip-hop dancing demonstrates a positive outlook on life and an unwillingness to cower in the face of difficulties.

Hip-hop dancing has initially been popularized in the United States in the 1970s and has been around for nearly 40 years. This particular dance genre first gained popularity in the early 1990s in the United States of America.

Hip-hop dancing may be divided into two major categories: the "old school" and the "new school."

The Old School Hip Hop

Breaking, locking, and popping are all examples of hip-hop dance forms that were get popularized between the 1970s and the 1980s. Let's talk about these three for you to have a clearer understanding of the difference between these hip hop dance forms:

Breaking

When it comes to breaking dance, it's all about the competition between several groups. Close-to-the-ground movements are essential to this kind of hip hop dance style. Spins with the head, leg, and arm motions are examples of its dance moves. Breakdancers usually sway to the beat of hip-hop music while they perform. As a whole, breaking seems to be more appropriate for men because of its inherent masculinity and ferocity.

On the other hand, they say that the popping and the locking style in Hip Hop dancing seem to be quite similar. However, alike as they may seem, there are still several variances between them.

Locking

In locking, dancers hold a pose for a long time before moving on. As a matter of fact, Lock dancers customarily use a set of noticeable techniques when doing this kind of Hip Hop dance style. Lock, points, and rollover of the fist are the three most common locking techniques that they use.

Popping

Body parts vibrate to the beat of the music in a popping dance performance. In this type of Hip Hop dance style, one of the most common popping motions is a gliding or sliding motion, followed by a ticking or robotic sound.

The New School Hip Hop

Now that you have some ideas about the Old School Hip Hop, it's now time for us to get familiarized with the New School.

House, street jazz and other dance styles popular in the 1990s are all considered part of new school hip-hop. A wide variety of dance disciplines, like Latin, jazz, and ballet, are being incorporated into these new kinds of hip-hop dance styles. They're better suited to females as a whole.

It's good to know that the Hip Hop dance styles developed throughout the years, making them more compatible and more accessible to be tried on and taken part in regardless of the individual's gender. And this is also one of the reasons why Hip Hop is still famous up to these days, as more and more people can have the opportunity to try this out.

Let’s Hip Hop to the Top with Bigtime Palaboy

Since we're talking about opportunity, Lumina Homes recently launched its newest nationwide dance competition for every Juan, the Lumina Hip Hop to the Top Dance Contest. One of the hopeful contenders of this national dance contest is the Bigtime Palaboy group from Bulacan.

BIgtime Palaboy doesn't only show their competitive skills and talents in Hip Hop dancing but also promotes some of the most visited places in their province—the Barasoain Church.

The Barasoain Church

Barasoain Church, which was built between 1885 and 1888, is a spectacular example of the popularity of Baroque design in Spanish constructions in the Philippines at the time it was constructed in the late 19th century. Because of the stone church, a well-established neighborhood with a solid religious ethos may be inferred.

It was during Fr. Juan Giron's time that the stone church was built. It was Miguel Magpayo who conceived the architectural design of this magnificent church. When Barasoain was established as a distinct town from Malolos and Santa Isabel, it was commemorated with this monument. For many years after the Americans colonized our country, the two towns were united again as the Municipality of Malolos, but their respective churches stayed independent from each other.

Its Architectural Design

An austere imitation of the grand European Baroque and Neo-Classical structures built by master architects was used in the architectural design of the building. Missionaries, not expert architects, erected Roman Catholic churches in the Philippines; hence there was less articulation. However, only churches of the basilica type are found in first-class towns and cities were capable of constructing a two-tower structure with an ornate façade, painted ceilings, a pulpit, replica statues, and an ornately decorated cloister; the rest had to make do with what they could get their hands on, including local materials and labor.

Why is it famous?

Barasoain Church is famous because it became part of our national history and even earned the title "Cradle of Democracy in the East." As time has passed, it has been used for a variety of events. A few noteworthy occurrences in Philippine history include the First Philippine Congress (1899), the Malolos Constitution (drafted in 1899), and two presidential inaugurations, the first of which was for President Emilio Aguinaldo as president of the First Republic and that of President Joseph Estrada as the 13th president.

The Province of Bulacan is absolutely rich in historical places and infrastructures, aside from the stunning architectures and tourist attractions. And yet, the best part of it is it is just a few hours away from Metro Manila!
