Feb-ever in Love: Aki and Rogelyn Love Story

This love month, we will feature a unique couple who unexpectedly found love from each other. They started as colleagues at work then became friends until they ended up being in love with each other. This Feb-ever, let’s witness the inspiring and unique love story of Aki and Rogelyn.

Co-workers turned to lovers.

Aki and Rogelyn is already a couple for 15 years. Aki admitted that it is love at first sight, while Rogelyn said that for her, it is love the second time around.

Aki wondered why Rogelyn was willing to live with her in just a matter of days. Rogelyn explains that it’s because she knows it’s already love ever since the start. She exclaimed that the “kilig factor” was always there until she told Aki to already live together since she didn’t want to lose her anymore.

 “Kasi sabi nga hindi ba, once na maramdaman mo na yung love na yun, huwag mo nang pakawalan,” Rogelyn said.

(As what they say, once you already feel that love is knocking on your door, don’t ever let it go.)

How can you describe your love story in 3 words?

Rogelyn told Aki, “You fulfill me. Kasi ikaw yung bumuo sa buhay ko na hindi ko akalain na mabubuo talaga.”

(You fulfill me because you complete my life that I never thought would be whole again.)

“Kasi dati hindi ba, ang pangarap ko lang magkaroon ng bahay, tapos na. Pero noong naging tayo parang mas lumawak. Mas marami na kong gustong marating. Parang ikaw yung nag-open up na maging matured ako.”

(Before, I only dreamed of having my own house, then that’s it. But since we started dating, it expanded. My dreams became 

more significant. It’s like you’re the one who made me more mature.)

In return, Aki told her that she’s her everything.

“Kasi wala naman na akong hangad sa buhay ko kung hindi nandyan ka lang. Kaya ikaw na yung everything para sa akin. Hindi na iyon mababago kahit kalian.”

(I don’t have any wish in life but for you to be always here with me. That is why you are my everything, and it won’t change no matter what.)

What do you love most about your partner?

Rogelyn admitted that she loved Aki because of her “very” unconditional love.

“Yung pagmamahal niya sa akin, hindi ba may unconditional love. Pero iyong kanya pwede mo dugtungan ng ‘very’ unconditional love.”

(Her love for me is more than what unconditional love can offer that you can add the word “very” to it.)

Rogelyn also added that Aki knows a lot about life.

“Magaling in all aspect. Sa pamumuhay, sa pagdadala ng relationship. Kumbaga all-in-one.”

(She’s good in all aspects. In life, in our relationship. She’s like an all-in-one.)

Aki, on the other hand, also shared what she loves most about her partner.

“Siguro yung pagiging maaalalahanin nya kasi maasikaso kasi siyang tao. So sa bawat pag-aasikaso niya sa akin sa food, sa damit na isusuot, nakikita ko sa kanya yung pagmamahal. Parang nandyan na siya. Hindi na siya mawawala sa akin. Kampante na ko sa buhay ko.”

(Maybe it’s her thoughtfulness since she is a very caring person. Every time she prepares my food, and my clothes to wear, I can feel her love for me. I can feel that she will always be here with me and never leave me. This gives me a sense of security in my life.)

She also says that she finds Rogelyn as a very nice person.

“Mapagmahal. Kasi hindi ba kapag sinabi natin na mapagmahal lahat nandun na. Care, love kaya nasabi ko na mapagmahal siyang tao. Kasi lahat ng nangyari sa buhay ko naunawaan niya.”

(She’s a loving person because when we say loving, all the good qualities that you want in a person are already there. She’s caring and loving because she understands everything about my life.)

This gives her a feeling of security that Rogelyn’s love for her will never change no matter what.

Memorable moment as a couple

Rogelyn said that they experienced so many things as a couple. She also stated that she was a bit immature at first, unlike Aki, who is mature enough right from the start because of all her experiences in life.

“Siya yung nagturo sa akin paano na magtiis as long as nagmamahalan pa din kami. Fight pa din kahit na maraming pagsubok na hinaharap.”

(She taught me how to endure everything as long as we love each other. Never give up even though we face a lot of trials in life.)

 “May times na hindi na kami makabayad ng apartment kasi na-opera na sya.”

(There was a time that we couldn’t pay our apartment fee because she just got out from surgery.)

They said that at that time, Aki couldn’t work anymore, so Rogelyn was the one who found means for them to make ends meet.

“Binuhay ako ni Rogie,” Aki said. “Pero thankful ako kasi hindi siya naghanap, hindi siya nagbilang.”

(“Rogie is the one who makes our ends meet,” Aki said. “But I’m thankful because she didn’t replace me or blame me for it.)

“Tiniis nya lahat ng hirap kahit ayaw sa akin ng parents niya.”

(She endured all the pain even though her parents don’t like me for her.)

Aki is really thankful that God still gave them a chance to be together for a longer time.

Rogelyn relayed to us,

(There are a lot of memorable things that happened in our Lumina home. In here, we were able to explore becoming a sales agent.)

(We need to work hard in order for us to earn a living here in San Jose.)

Aki said that Rogie didn’t have any other means of income online until they decided to invest in a property at Lumina Homes.

(This is a significant advantage because, in a way, it’s fulfillment for us after years of renting. Just with our rental expense, our income was already reduced to half. Now, this is our own, so even though we pay it every month, at least, we’re proud to say that it is ours.)

“Hindi katulad noong umuupa kami noon na walang kasiguraduhan.”

(Unlike before that, we don’t have any sense of security.)

“So, talagang blessing na makakuha kami ng bahay kasi una iyon talaga yung masasabi mong kasiyahan. Wala kang iisipin na walang kang titirhan.”

(That’s why it is a real blessing that we were able to get a property as we can really say it’s our happiness. You don’t have to worry about where you would stay.)

She relayed that it’s difficult for a person to think and worry about where they would rent or stay next.

“Yung kabuuan ng buhay is magkaroon talaga ng sariling bahay. So, iyun talaga yung pinaka-fulfilling time of my life. May masasabi kang sarili mong bahay.”

(The fulfillment of a lifetime is for you to have your own home. That’s why that time was the most fulfilling part of life—to say that you have a space you can call your own.)

Aki also said that this was the best experience for her because, from scratch, they were able to invest in a home they could call their own.

What is the advice you can give to young or married couples who are starting to build their own home and family?

The many trials that Aki and Rogelyn experienced throughout the years of their relationship taught them many things in life. 

For Aki, “Para sa mga kabataan, kailangan talaga magsumikap para sa buhay.Mag-ipon. Isipin ang darating na bukas.”

(For the millennials, you really need to persevere in life. Have some savings and think about the future.)

“Darating ang araw na ikaw ay mag-isa. Hindi palaging kasama mo ang iyong mga magulang. Lalo na kung ikaw ay lalaki. Ikaw ang bubuhay sa iyong asawa. Kailangan maging masipag ka at mag-ipon ka para sa mapapangasawa mo.”

(Time will come that you need to live alone. It’s not like your parents are always there for you, especially for men. You will be responsible for giving your wife a good life. You need to be diligent and have some savings for your future wife.)

“Ipon, magtiyaga, focus kung ano yung goal mo. Para pagdating nang araw, mayroon kang mga naipundar. Hindi yung darating ang araw na ikaw ay tumanda, ganoon lang ang buhay mo. Hindi na nabago.”

(Save, persevere and stay focused on your goals. So that when the time comes, you can have some investment. You won’t reach your old age that your life doesn’t change or improve at all.)

Meanwhile, Rogie also gave some advice to our youth:

“Habang bata pa, i-settle na natin yung buhay natin. Magkaroon ng sariling investment. Lalo na sa bago pa lang na couple, yung struggles nandyan. Pero kasama na doon ang paghahangad ng bagong investment, lalo na yung sarili mong bahay.”

(Settle your life while you’re still young. Have your own investment, especially for newlywed couples. The struggles are always there, but along with that is the dream to have a new investment, which is your own home.)

“Kasi kahit na anong struggles ang dumating, yung pagkakaroon ng sariling bahay, fulfillment na yun. Kumbaga iyon na reward mo sa sarili mo.”
