Growing up without a dad

Missing a father

His father went to Saudi Arabia to work when he was just six years old, so he never experienced how to have a father figure since he started going to school.

His dad was not there when he fell and got wounded. He didn't have a dad to help and cheer him to stand up when he fell. His dad wasn't even there to witness him when he got his first Journalism Award in Grade 6. 

Even though many people applauded him and his name was featured in their school paper, with a caption that says, "Brightest Kid in Campus," he still felt incomplete. He longed and wished that his dad was there to see it all—being proud and loud that his son got the first award and was recognized in a school newspaper.

In experiencing all his firsts

As he grew older, he was able to experience all his firsts. He can still clearly remember the time when he had his first crush.

There's no one he could share it with because he was afraid that his mom would get angry at him. He wished that his dad was there so they could share this moment, although he didn't have any idea what his dad's reaction would be.

He tried to learn how to play the guitar during his high school since their section would join the Battle of the Bands. He can still recall how he tried to take a risk to go out without his mom's approval to attend the competition's practice. Even though he felt sorry for his mom about it, he was glad that all got paid off when they won the contest, except that it would be much better if his dad were there watching him perform.

Going to college

Years passed by, and he still couldn't see his dad.

As it happened, when he was in college, he tried to persevere to become the top of the class in hopes that he could make his dad go back home. This is because he would like to see his dad and be with him during graduation. But his dad wasn't able to make it. 

Eventually, all his hard work came to fruition as he graduated Cum Laude when he got his bachelor's degree. He saw how proud and happy her mom was that she even called his dad. Unfortunately, his mom's load was wasted because his father was out of reach at that time.

When it hit him, he never felt how to have a dad as he grew up.

Then, the pandemic came.

This year, the whole world was caught off guard when the novel coronavirus hit every part of the globe. 

Due to this severe crisis brought by the pandemic, his dad was finally forced to go back home. 

But, it wasn't easy at first. Even though his father is already at home, he doesn't know how to start a conversation with him, so he usually avoids looking at him. He wondered, what would be the proper way to say "hi" to a dad?

Fill in the gaps

The gaps filled when his father apologized and explained that he needed to bear and do it all to give them the life convenience they deserve.

He realized that there was no need for his dad to apologize and told him how grateful he was that even though the whole world had undergone a burdensome year, his dad became the best-est gift he had ever received!

Now, he knows how it feels to be hugged by those arms that carried him when he was still a baby. Each great memory with him when he was a child keeps on rushing in that every time his dad asked him to massage his shoulders, he can remember how his dad used to put him on his strong shoulders when he was a kid just for him to see the world. 

Turning the tables

With the pandemic still at large around the globe, he now decided to take the responsibility off his father's shoulder. Both his parents stay at home for safety, bringing him the promise that he will always take good care of himself as they all create new memories together that they can treasure forever.
